My name is John Weiss and having taught third grade here at Cherry Hills Village Elementary for 14 years, I am very excited to be teaching 5th Grade Math and Science. Before moving to CHVE, I was worked with 3rd grade at Bennett Elementary in District 29J, Arapahoe County.
I studied Botany and Plant Pathology at Colorado State University and after a year “honing skills” at Keystone, I was blessed to work for the University of Illinois School of Medicine for almost three years. (All of us plant guys were, more or less, glorified landscapers working with the Ornamental Horticulture boys designing, planning, and caring for university sites across the state.) Following a desire to become a teacher I went back to college and attained my B.S.ed from Western Illinois University. I truly think that we spend the first few years of our education learning to read and the rest of our lives reading to learn. I believe that my background in the sciences allows me to work with your children enabling them to employ Scientific Method, to question, to create, to work collaboratively with others, and enjoy their learning experience in Math and Social Studies as well. Communication is also very important, at this age especially, and will respond quickly to emails should you have any questions or wish clarification. Also, I gladly welcome any expertise that you as parents may wish to bring to share with our class.
Nancy, my wife, and I have two sons, a 2016 CSU graduate and a 2017 UNC graduate.
We are here to help your child have the most enriching, challenging, meaningful fifth grade experience possible this year here at CHVE.
